Peaceful and quiet, a leisurely bike ride through mountain villages and gorgeous karst scenery is probably the nicest bit of traveling I’ve experienced in China
The best way to explore the countryside around Yangshuo is on a bike. There are short, flat, incredibly scenic routes, there are long routes with hill climbs and beautiful scenery that you’ll love, if you’re into mountain biking, there are tons of trails through the rice fields and mountains.
I don’t know anyone who’s been to Yangshuo that has ridden a bike through the countryside and not loved it. Imagine strolling from village to village, among peaceful green karst mountain scenery, not having a care in the world.
Yangshou is a small town next to Guilin in Guang Xi province in southern China, from Chengdu it’s a 26 hour bus/train ride to Guilin, then another 90 minute from Guilin to here bus here but it’s worth all the effort.
Yangshou is surrounded in tall, rocky karst limestone mountains, the entire region is literally covered in them.
You can cycle out to Water Cave, Moon Hill and even all the way to Xingping if you’re feeling energetic.
I spent 4 days in the Yangshuo area and I can honestly say it’s one of the most spectacular towns I’ve ever visited.
